Rev Dr Tony Sargent

Tony is a graduate of the University of London and Westminster Theological Seminar USA. For twenty eight years he was the senior minister of Worthing Tabernacle south of London he then served for eleven years as the first principal of International Christian College. He did his doctoral thesis at Westminster Theological Seminary which was published under the title of The Sacred Anointing an exploration of unction in the preaching of Martyn Lloyd Jones. This has not only been published in English, but also has several editions in Korean. He followed this with Gems from Martin Lloyd Jones. He also wrote the controversial book Animal Right and Wrongs and is a member of Compassion in World Farming.

Tony serves as distinguished Professor in Pastoral Theology and Transformational Community Development of Bethany University San Francisco and also too in an adjunct capacity on the faculty of Kabarak University Kenya and is honorary senior pastor of Pipe Line Africa Inland Church, Nairobi.

His philanthropic work takes him regularly to East Africa and South East Asia particularly Kenya, Pakistan and India where for many years he has served as a director of Operation Mobilisation. He is a trustee of Bethany Hospitals, Mumbai and Emmanuel Ministries in Calcutta. He is a director of several Christian organisations including Elam Ministries, and is on the Council of the Evangelical Alliance, Scotland.

In recognition of his widespread travels and work at the cutting edge of poverty and the promotion of education in 2008 Tony was awarded the Doctor of the University degree by Strathclyde University with their accolade that ‘the spirit of David Livingstone lives on in Glasgow’.
