Postgraduate Entry Requirements

Master of Theology in Biblical Interpretation

Applicants for entry to the Master’s programme must normally hold either:

  1. a recognised UK Honours Level Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies/Theology of Lower Second level or above, or
  2. a recognised UK Honours level Bachelor’s degree in another discipline of Lower Second level or above and a recognised UK Ordinary level Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies/Theology. Such candidates must display a level of ability consistent with possible success at postgraduate level. The Programme Committee may require such candidates to submit a specimen piece of previous written work.

Applicants for entry to the Diploma and Certificate programmes must normally hold either:

  1. a recognised UK Bachelor’s degree in Theology/Biblical Studies. Such candidates must display a level of ability consistent with possible success at postgraduate level. The Programme Committee may require such candidates to submit a specimen piece of previous written work. Or,
  2. a recognised UK Bachelor’s degree in a relevant other discipline. Relevant other disciplines will be in the field of the humanities and candidates holding such other degrees must also have the equivalent of two years of additional full-time formal study in Biblical Studies/Theology at an appropriate level. Such candidates must display a level of ability consistent with possible success at postgraduate level. The Programme Committee may require such candidates to submit a specimen piece of previous written work.

Master of Theology in Ministry in an Urban World

Applicants for entry to the Master’s programme must normally have at least three full-time equivalent years of urban ministry / mission experience or of leadership of urban ministry / mission and hold either:

  1. a recognised UK Honours level Bachelor’s degree at second class Honours level or above or equivalent in Theology, Social Sciences or other relevant discipline, or
  2. a recognised UK Honours level Bachelor’s degree at second class Honours level or above or equivalent in another discipline and a recognised UK Diploma of Higher Education or equivalent in Theology or other relevant discipline. Such candidates must display a level of ability consistent with possible success at postgraduate level. The Programme Committee will normally require such candidates to submit specimen written work.

Applicants for entry to the Diploma programme must normally have at least three full-time equivalent years of urban ministry / mission experience or of leadership of urban ministry / mission, and hold:

  1. a recognised UK Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Theology, Social Sciences or other relevant discipline, or
  2. a recognised UK Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in another discipline, together with evidence of certificated learning in Theology and/or substantial experience in applied theology, or
  3. a portfolio and summary of substantial non-certificated and experiential learning relating to applied theology and urban ministry. Such applicants will normally have at least 5 years full-time equivalent urban ministry or ministry experience, and will demonstrate the academic and reflective skills to engage in Masters level study.

Post-graduate Research

Applicants for entry to Master’s research must normally hold a UK Honours Level Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Theology of Lower Second level or above.

Applicants for entry to doctoral research must normally hold a UK MTh or MDiv. Overseas students would need to have the equivalent.

Most applicants are entered for MPhil first with a view to PhD.
