Distance Learning (Certificate of Christian Studies)

Map & Flag ImageThe college offers some programmes which can be accessed in distance learning format. This enables people who are not able to attend courses at ICC to pursue study and training.

  • Distance learning means you can study at home, in your own time, at your own pace.
  • The use of email means that tutor support is available, and makes submission of assignments much easier.
  • The Certificate of Christian Studies consists of six courses which build into the Certificate. At least one course must be taken from each of the three areas of Biblical Studies, Doctrine & History, and Practical Theology.
  • Students can take individual courses - not necessarily working towards the Certificate of Christian Studies.
  • Successfully passing the Certificate of Christian Studies allows access to the second year of ICC’s BA Theology programme or BA Youth & Community Work with Applied Theology programme (it may be necessary for applicants to the Youth & Community work programme to produce evidence of their youth or community work experience). Successfully passing the Certificate of Christian Studies also allows access to continue distance learning though the Open Theological College.
  • Those accepted by their presbytery to train as Readers within the Church of Scotland may take the ICC Certificate of Christian Studies as the academic component of the standard training programme.
