Children's Ministry

Children colouring imageThis specialism was created in response to a clear need for workers among children, in particular children at risk, to be well-grounded in both theological and practical skills, and to know how to pace themselves in this demanding ministry so as not to burn out. Besides theological, biblical, historical and cross-cultural studies students take specific courses on different aspects of children’s ministry, in particular ministry to the many children at risk around the world.

Students who do the specialism take all the core courses within the BA Theology programme. As well as this, they also take three courses which are core to the specialism during level II and level III.  Several Children’s Ministry courses are also available as electives.

Students in level II take a placement which runs throughout the year in a children’s ministry setting. In level III students take either an Extended Placement which normally runs throughout the year, alternatively a block placement in the summer between levels II & III may be negotiated, giving students the opportunity to develop practical as well as theoretical skills in children’s ministry in the UK or overseas.

Students who complete the programme will receive the award of BA Theology with Children’s Ministry (the first qualification of its kind in the UK). Students who do not complete the full three years of the programme may still take children’s ministry courses in Level II, and students on the BA Theology programme not taking the specialism may take any Children’s Ministry courses that they wish.
