Glasgow - a world city

George Square WheelInternational Christian College is set in the heart of the city of Glasgow, a city full of life, with world-class art galleries and museums, a diverse variety of musical venues, and some large shopping centres.

Glasgow was given the title of European City of Culture in 1990, and in 2009 was made a UNESCO City of Music.  It is home to two of Britain’s biggest football clubs, Celtic and Rangers and in 2014 will be the host city for the Commonwealth Games.

Glasgow is also an historic city.  The ICC building is within sight of the beautiful Glasgow Cathedral and close to the stunning architecture of the old Merchant City.  A few minutes’ walk away is the River Clyde, the setting for the exciting new waterfront development.  Glasgow is also within easy reach of some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe - Loch Lomond is less than an hour away, with the Highlands easily accessible.

Glasgow is a multicultural city, with sectors of its population having their roots in the Scottish Highlands, in Ireland, in Italy, in Lithuania, in the Indian sub-continent and in Hong Kong.  It is a multi-religious city, with mosques, synagogues, Sikh gurdwaras, Hindu temples and Buddhist centres taking their place alongside traditional and modern churches.  And, having seen the decline of its traditional industries and a consequent rise in unemployment, it is not a city free from social problems, especially in its inner-city areas and housing schemes.

All of this makes Glasgow both a challenging and an exciting place in which to live, to train for Christian ministry, and to be involved in what God is doing.
